While trying to save a youth, a vegetable trader was beaten up by the mobs in Sonargaon.

A vegetable trader was attacked while trying to save a youth from being beaten up in the Dhandi market of Noagaon Union in Sonargaon, Narayanganj.

The incident took place on Friday, January 20 at 9.30 am. The injured businessman was rescued and admitted to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex. Alamgir Hossain, the vegetable trader who was injured in the incident filed a complaint at Sonargaon police station. According to the complaint source and eyewitness testimony, Alamgir Hossain, son of Rahmat Ali, a vegetable trader of Sheikhkandi village of Noagaon union of the upazila, went to Dhandi Bazar on Friday to sell the market. There, he saw Raju Mia’s brother Roni, a village doctor in the market, being beaten up by the accused three sons of Delwar Hossain of Char Noagaon village Rubel, Sharif, Palash and their accomplice Sumon alias Batpar Sumon in a family dispute. At the same time, the accused brought rods, hooksticks and batons from the house and started beating Raju and his father who were also present in the pharmacy. At one point, when businessman Alamgir Hossain tried to save them by asking why Roni was beaten, the accused got angry and attacked Alamgir with iron rods, hooksticks and cricket stamps in their hands. When Alamgir Hossain, the victim of their attack, was seriously injured, the locals rescued him and admitted him to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex. Alamgir Hossain, the businessman who was injured in the incident filed a complaint at Sonargaon police station in the afternoon. The chargesheet states that the accused extorted Rs 50,000 from him.

Residents complain that they have been attacking various people under the leadership of Rubel for a long time. The police station has several cases against Rubel, his brother and his family members. Rubel and his family members are on the police’s red list of accused.

On the afternoon of the incident, a delegation of Sonargaon police led by ASI Anik Mahmud went to the spot and conducted investigation and took the statements of the victims and eyewitnesses.
