There is no educational institution in Patakhali village, students are dropping out.
Abubakar Siddique, Khulna district Representative:
Since no educational institution has been established in Patakhali village of South Bedkashi Union in the coastal Koyra Upazila of Khulna District since independence, the students of the area are going to distant schools to study. As a result, many children of the village are staying away from the light of education. Many interested students drop out due to schools in remote areas.
Patakhali village of South Bedkashi of Koyra upazila has a population of about 4000 people but there is no primary school in the village.  Local students also donated land for the construction of the school.  After that, the local people repeatedly protested to the concerned authorities for the establishment of schools.  They only got assurances.  In reality, nothing has been done.  About two hundred students of the village have been studying in remote schools for a long time. Many students are dropping out due to schools in remote areas.  The reluctance of students to go to school is increasing day by day.  The parents are worried about the future of their children. Recently, the students of that area formed a human chain to demand the construction of a full school. They sought the intervention of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and demanded the construction of a primary school in that village.
Local people said that in 1996, some local educationists donated 33 cents of land to build a primary school in Patakhali village.  But due to the negligence and indifference of the concerned authorities, no school was established there.  Due to this, the students of the village are studying in the government primary school in the neighboring union, the distant Dakshin Vedkashi government primary school, Choramukha government primary school.
Sumaiya Akhtar Mim, a 3rd class student of Patakhali village, said that since there is no school in the village, they are going to the schools of the neighboring villages on foot with great difficulty.  Since there is no school in the village, many classmates do not go to distant schools.  Many have also dropped out of education. We want a school in our village.  We want to grow by learning.
Haider Mallik and Yakub Mallik, who gave the land to build the village school, said, “It is too old.  I’m old  I am donating 1 bigha of land after my own land is less to establish a school in the village, I have gone door-to-door to many people.  They only promised.  No work done.  I want to visit a school in our village before I die.
Abdul Mannan Mallik, the entrepreneur who established a primary school in the area, said, “We started a school to educate the students of the village. There were 65 students. But the school is not running properly due to lack of facilities.  Since there is no school in the village, many children and teenagers of the village, including my children, are struggling to study far away.  Many are dropping out.  Children and youth are in danger due to lack of education. If a school is established in Patakhali village, the children and youth of the area will be able to form a beautiful society by receiving good education.
In this regard, Koyra Upazila Primary Education Officer Habibur Rahman said, Patakhali village needs a school.  There was a community school long ago due to a project which is now closed. Necessary action will be taken after talking to the higher authorities. Aktaruzzaman Babu, the local member of parliament, said, “I have come to know about the matter. I will inform the concerned department for the construction of a primary school in Patakhali village of South Bedkashi Union as soon as possible.
