JUST student killed in road accident, 7 point demand of students.

The students of Jessore University of Science and Technology formed a human chain to demand the punishment of the culprits in the death of Farzana Yasmin Sumi, a third year student of Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department of Jessore University of Science and Technology.

 The incident took place on Sunday (January 1) around 4:30 pm in front of the brick kiln near Churamankathi railway crossing on Jessore-Chougacha road.  According to local people and police sources, a truck of BADC (Jeshor-T-1394) rammed into a passenger van at around 4:30 pm.  Zohra Begum (50), wife of Amjad Hossain of Kamlapur village of Jessore Sadar, and Vanchalak Masum (35), son of Abdul Hakim of Bagdanga village, Farzana Akhter Sumi, a third year student of Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department of Yabiprabir, were taken to Jessore Sadar Hospital by doctors who declared her dead on the spot.  Another injured student, third year student of Physical Education and Sports Department, Motasin Billah, is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

After the incident, a human chain and protest rally was held in front of the main gate of the university in the evening. At this time, they presented 7-point demands.  The demands are- 1) fair trial of the accident, 2) proper treatment of the injured and one crore compensation to the dead, 3) taking adequate measures to keep the road adjacent to the university from Churamankathi safe, 4) constructing a footpath from Ambattalabazar to Beltala, 5) at least 4 in front of the main gate of the university.  Providing t speed breakers, 6) Providing speed limit-defining signboards, 7) Passing four lanes in front of the university.  At this time, Vice-President of University Chhatra League, Afiqur Rahman Ayan said, mobile court should be set up on the road to control the speed of vehicles. In the past, our friends and younger brothers have died due to these reckless vehicles.  Today one of our sisters passed away, we don’t want to lose anyone else.  The university administration had previously informed the parties to the BRTA authorities, but they neglected to do so.  If all our demands are not accepted, a strict movement will be announced by blocking the Churamankathi road in Jessore. Meanwhile, Yabiprabi Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr.  Md: Anwar Hossain. On the assurance of the Vice-Chancellor, the Yabi Prabi students have announced a temporary suspension of the movement. However, they also said that if their demands are not met, the next program will be announced.
