Border Hut of Kurigram was opened after two and a half years.

 After being closed for two and a half years, the Bangladesh-India border hut on the Baliamari-Kalaiyerchar border of Rajirpur upazila of Kurigram has reopened.  On November 16, the opening date was fixed on Wednesday (November 30) after discussions at the DC-DIM level between the two countries and accordingly the border huts were opened on Wednesday.  Border Hut will be open every week on Wednesday and Monday from 10 am to 3 pm. This hut was closed for more than two and a half years due to the fear of the spread of coronavirus worldwide.

 According to Rajibpur Upazila administration sources, border hut activities have been closed since February 5, 2020 due to the risk of coronavirus infection.  After that it was not possible to start the operation of the market due to flood.  As the situation is now normal, it was decided to open the huts on the initiative of the Border Hut Management Committee of both the countries. Rajibpur Upazila Nibarhi Officer Amit Chakraborty, Upazila Chairman Akbar Hossain Hero, Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mozaharul Islam, Upazila Awami League President Bir Muktijoddha Abdul Hai Sarkar, UP Chairman Miron Md Ilyas, UP member Farizal Haque and many others were present at the opening ceremony of Border Hut.

 37 types of products of both countries will be sold in the market.  Businessmen of both countries will benefit from this.  There are 25 sellers and 587 buyers from Bangladesh and 50 sellers and 251 buyers from India for buying and selling in this market.  All of them have been given permission to come and go to market.  Naturally, there will be no problem in following the health rules as the buyers and sellers of the market are fixed. It is to be noted that the hut was officially launched on July 23, 2011, on 75 meters of 4 bigha land of both countries next to sub-pillar number 19 of 1072 main pillar of Kalairchar border of Mahendraganj police station of Ampati district of Meghalaya state of Bangladesh and Baliamari of Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram, Bangladesh.  Since then, this haat was held once a week every Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm.

 Then in the last year 2019 held on September 18 in the Border Hut Management Committee meeting of Bangladesh and India, the day of installation of border huts was extended to two days.  After that, from October 7, 2019, two days a week, Monday and Wednesday, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, there was buying and selling in the market. Rajipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Amit Chakrabatry said that according to the decision of the border haat management committee on November 16 this year, the haat was reopened on November 30 after completing all the preparations.

Husband arrested for killing wife by throat in Kurigram.

 Police have arrested husband Mokhlesur Rahman (45) on the charge of killing his wife by strangulation in Kurigram. The deceased Sahera Begum (40) is the daughter of deceased Abdus Chatter of Palashbari Paschim Para village of Belgacha Union of the upazila.  After this incident, the deceased’s husband Md Mokhleshur Rahman was absconding.  Later he was arrested from Dinajpur city. The family members including the victim’s mother claimed that Shahera’s husband killed her by slitting her throat and left the body in the house and locked it. According to police and locals, Mokhlesur Rahman (45) and Sahera Begum (40) have been married for 25 years.

 After marriage, Mokhlesur Rahman lived in his father-in-law’s house in Palashbari Paschimpara village of Kurigram Belgacha Union.  Their two daughters are married and one son works as a mason.  The family conflict was long-standing. Both husband and wife were alone at home on Wednesday (November 30).  In the afternoon, after arguing, at one point he slaughtered with a sharp blade, locked the house and ran away.  Later, at around 7 pm, Md Shamim, son of the deceased, returned home after work and found the house locked.  After breaking the lock and seeing his mother strangled on the bed, the people nearby came running and screamed.  Later, the locals informed the police and the police went and recovered the body.  In this incident, mother Fatema Begum filed a murder case against the accused Mukhlesur Rahman at the police station.

 Fatema Begum, the mother of the deceased Shahera Begum said, ‘My son-in-law killed his daughter and ran away.  I was out all day.  After hearing the news, I saw the dead body of the girl.  I want justice for the murder of my daughter.’ Kurigram Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khan Mohammad Shahriar said that within 6 hours of the police posting incident, the accused husband was arrested at midnight from Tikur Sal Khoria area of ​​Nawabganj, Dinajpur district.  The sharp blade used in the murder was also recovered.
