Small businessmen hanged in Laksam under the pressure of debt.

It has been alleged that Lokman Hossain (45), a petty trader, committed suicide by hanging in Laksam of Comilla, unable to pay the loan amount. The incident took place on Monday afternoon at Latif Miar’s house in Bainchatia village of Ward No. 2 of the municipality. On receiving the information, the police of Laksam police station recovered the body from the spot and brought it to the police station. According to police sources, the deceased businessman Lokman Hossain’s house is in Barisal. On the 1st of this month, he started living with his wife in a rented house at Latif Mia’s house in Bainchatia village of Ward No. 2 of the municipality. Lokman Hussain had two other marriages before. Their couple has no children. Even the present wife does not know the real address of her husband. According to the source of the local and the victim’s wife, Lokman Hossain has been selling jal murid and fried food on the pavement of the area for the past few days. As he needed money for his business, he took loans from several well-known people and various NGOs. He committed suicide by hanging himself with a fan in his rented house in the afternoon as he could not pay the installments of the loan and the money of the creditors. Rashida Begum, the wife of the deceased, said, “I was praying Asr in the next room. My husband was in the room, but after the prayer, I found the door closed. I tried to open the door without getting any response from husband and then through the window I saw him hanging from the ceiling fan. Meanwhile, Bakul Begum, the wife of Abdus Sattar, the tenant of the next room, said that she had not heard any quarrel between them since they came home. I cannot say why this incident happened today. Abdul Latif, the owner of the house, admitted the truth of the incident and said that they are new tenants, I don’t know why they committed suicide. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laksam Police Station Mejbah Uddin Bhuiya confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the body has been recovered, the exact cause of suicide will be known after the autopsy.
