General Secretary of the party, Obaidul Quader, as a party candidate in the Election Commission yesterday. Sahabuddin submitted the name of Chuppur. Earlier on Saturday night, Awami League office secretary Biplab Barua said in a statement that a delegation led by the general secretary of the party will meet with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Sunday morning. Md. Sahabuddin Chuppu is the chairman of Awami League’s publicity and publication sub-committee. Prime Minister’s political advisor late HT Imam died. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina nominated Sahabuddin Chuppu. Sunday (February 12) is the last day to file nomination papers for the presidential election. Nomination papers must be submitted to the Election Commission (EC) by 4 pm. The nomination papers will be scrutinized from 10 am on Monday. Nomination papers can be withdrawn till 4 pm the next day. Then the country’s 22nd presidential election will be held on February 19 at the Jatiya Sangsad Complex from 2 pm to 5 pm. Due to the absolute majority of Awami League in the National Parliament, whoever will be nominated by this party will be elected unopposed as a single candidate. Party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was officially given the responsibility to finalize the candidate of Awami League for the post of President from the Awami League parliamentary party meeting on February 7. The opposition party in the parliament is not fielding candidates in this election.
