Sabyasachi writer Syed Shamsul Haque’s 87th birth anniversary celebrated in Kurigram.

 The 87th birthday anniversary of Sabyasachi writer Syed Shamsul Haque is being celebrated in Kurigram.  On the occasion of the day, tributes were paid by placing floral wreaths on his mausoleum at Kurigram Government College premises in the morning.  Various organizations including District Administration, Police Administration, District Awami League, Kurigram Municipality, Combined Cultural Alliance, Kurigram Press Club, District Shilpakala Academy, Kurigram Development Forum, Syed Shamsul Haque Memorial Parishad laid wreaths.  Later Syed Haque Mela was held at the Battala of Government College premises under the initiative of Syed Shamsul Haque Smriti Parishad.  Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Arif, Superintendent of Police Al Asad Md Mahfuzul Islam, Kabiputra II Syed Haque, Principal of Kurigram Government College Mirza Md Nasir Uddin, Municipal Mayor Kaziul Islam, Tuhin Wadud, Rokeya University teacher, Shyamal, Convenor of Sammilita Sanskultur Jot spoke at the opening ceremony.  Bhowmik, convener of Syed Shamsul Haque Smriti Parishad Yusuf Alamgir, journalist Ataur Rahman Biplab, poet Samya Rayan etc.  The speakers demanded construction of a memorial complex around Syed Haque’s tomb as soon as possible.  The literary culture of Kurigram will further develop when the complex is built.  Also, the new generation will know more about poet Syed Haque’s literature.

 Along with the stalls of various literary organizations, songs and poems written by poets are performed throughout the day. Syed Shamsul Haque was born on December 27, 1935 in Kurigram.  He breathed his last on 27 September 2016 (12 Ashwin 1423 Bangabd) at the United Hospital in Dhaka.  The next day, Wednesday, September 28 (12 Ashwin 1423 Bangla), his body was buried at Kurigram Government College grounds after the first round of janaza at Channel I Television’s Tejagao Square at 10 am, the second round of janaza at Dhaka University’s Central Mosque at 2 pm and the third round of janaza at Kurigram Government College grounds in the afternoon.
