Parents gathering for improving the quality of education in Baburhat Lower Secondary School, Ulipur.

Kurigram Correspondent :  A parent assembly was held to improve the quality of education at Baburhat Lower Secondary School in Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram.  Principal Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Fazlul Haque, Lokman Hakim, Fazlul Karim, Afshar Ali spoke in the parents’ assembly under the chairmanship of Abul Hossain Sarkar at the Baburhat Lower Secondary School ground of Tabakpur Union of Ulipur Upazila of the district at 12 noon on Saturday (January 21).  The founder of the school is the head teacher Md. Rezaul Islam Raja and others. 

Awami League leader beat up a teacher in Kurigram’s Roumari.

Awami League leader Roknuzzaman Rokon of Kurigram’s Roumari Upazila has been accused of picking up a teacher and beating him up. The incident took place in the room of head teacher Abu Horaira at Roumari CG Zaman High School on Thursday afternoon.

The accused is the head teacher of Phulkarchar Lower Secondary School of Nurunnabi Upazila.  And the batterer is in charge of relief and social welfare secretary of Rokon Upazila Awami League.

Teacher Nurunnabi claimed that Awami League leaders Rokon and Asadul Islam had a conflict with him over the appointment of the school.  Nurunnabi went to the upazila secondary education office along with Abdur Rashid, office assistant of the school, around 12 o’clock on Thursday.  After coming down from the second floor of the office after work, when he went to the upazila square, Awami League leader Rokon and his men took him to a bus counter. Nurunnabi said, “Later, the head teacher was taken on a motorcycle by the general secretary of the upazila Awami League and threatened with death.  Roumari took to the office room (of the school) of Abu Horaira, Headmaster of CG Zaman High School.  At one stage of speaking there, Rokon kept slapping and killing with both hands.”

 At that time, Abu Horaira got up from the chair and brought the situation under control, the victim teacher said, later he got treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.  Later that night, he gave a written complaint to the police station. When asked about the complaint, Awami League leader Roknuzzaman Rokon said, “The head teacher called me a broker because of recruitment issues.  At that time I could not control myself and slapped him twice.” General Secretary of Roumari Upazila Awami League and Headmaster of Roumari CG Zaman High School Abu Horaira said, “Rokon brought that headmaster to my office room.  While the teacher was talking, suddenly Rokan started slapping and punching him (the head teacher). “Rokon did not fix it at all.  He has committed a great injustice.” In response to the question whether organizational action will be taken against him, Horaira said, “The matter has been reported to the president of the Upazila Awami League.  Organizational action will be taken against him soon.
