Kurigram is full of enthusiasm Independence Day is celebrated.

In Kurigram Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Various social, cultural and political organizations including the district administration, police administration, district council, municipality, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Sammilit Sanskultur Jot, Kurigram Press Club laid wreaths on the occasion of the day at the Independence Victory Pillar adjacent to the Kurigram Stadium on Tuesday (November 6) morning. A discussion meeting was held under the chairmanship of the new Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Arif at the Independence Victory Pillar Square organized by the district administration.

 Highlighting the importance of the day, Superintendent of Police Al Asad Md. Mahfuzul Islam, Municipal Mayor Qaziul Islam, Vir Prateek Abdul Hai Sarkar, former District Commander of the Freedom Fighter Parliament Sirajul Islam Tuku, former Upazila Commander Vir Mukti Joddha Abdul Baten etc. spoke on it.

 The speakers said that during the liberation war of 1971, the entire Kurigram region was under sector number 6 and 11.  Raumari was a free zone separated only by the Brahmaputra river.  Freedom fighters were trained there.  Since the beginning of November, the attacks of the freedom fighters and the Indian allies intensified, and the bases of the Pakistani army began to fall one by one.  The invaders were freed and various areas of the district including Bhurungamari, Nageshwari, Chilmari, Ulipur were freed.

 Pak army came to Pichu Hot and built a strong base in Kurigram town.  After that, the Pakistani army was disoriented by the aerial attack of the allied forces to liberate the city of Kurigram.  On December 5, 1971, the Pakistani hyena group began to retreat in the face of the allied army’s operation.  Then comes December 6th Mahendrakashana.  On December 6, the entire Kurigram district was freed from the invaders.  Then the first flag of Bangladesh red green was hoisted over the water tank of the new city.
