A human chain was held demanding the cancellation of the auction of the old building of Jigri Government Primary School in Bagatipara, Natore and re-auction. On Wednesday (January 25) morning, local residents organized this human chain at Zigri Bazar of the upazila, at the end of which a memorandum was given to the upazila executive officer. President of Zigri Bazar Committee Salim Reza spoke in the chair, local Abul Bashar, Altab Hossain, Islam Ali and Yusuf Ali etc. The speakers said that the auction was held illegally on January 24 without informing anyone. Moreover, the chairman of the auction committee and the chairman of the school’s managing committee gave the work to the preferred person at a nominal price without calling the auction at the correct price. So no auction means demand re-auction. It is known on the ground that the government price of 6 rooms and 1 toilet has been blocked at 18 thousand 9 hundred taka, showing the dilapidated building. In the auction on 24th, a member of the managing committee named Salim Reza was given the job for 21 thousand 6 hundred taka. However, school teachers and locals are claiming that the pricing was not correct. Upazila engineer Azizur Rahman and primary education officer Dr. Sabrina Anam said that the price of the building has been fixed according to the government rules. In this regard, Upazila Executive Officer (in-charge) Suraiya Mumtaz said, I have heard about the human chain of local residents.
