Mother killed by her son in Comilla Lalmai.

Riyad Bhuiyan, Laksam (Comilla) representative :

In Perul Dakshin Kankashri village of Comilla’s Lalmai Upazila, there has been a complaint of killing mother Nurjahan Begum Chashma (55) by hitting her expatriate son with a knife in Dakshin Para. The deceased Nurjahan Begum Chashma is the wife of Kamal Hossain Raja Mia of that village. The killer’s son’s name is Nur Alam Sabuj (30). The incident took place on Saturday (December 10th) at 2:30 am, local ward member Saidul Islam (Titu) confirmed this information. According to the local people, since coming to the country just 5 days ago, Sabuj has not spoken to anyone and kept quiet. Although he was in Saudi for 2 years, he could not send money to the country. On that day, father Kamal Hossain Raja Mia, brother Arshad and others were beaten. Later, he went to Nana’s house nearby and beat up uncle Kamrul Islam’s wife Preeti (27), cousin Maisha. At that time, when the people of that house came forward to protect them, Sabuj beat some people including Tofail Hossain (55). On hearing the news, when her mother came forward to protect them, Nurjahan Begum Chashma died on the spot when she was hit with a sabal in Sabuj’s hand. Local residents said that after the murder, Sabuj left for Dhaka after coming home with bedding. At that time, when people chased him, he tried to escape by changing the road. Later people arrested him from the bank of Darbeshpara Dighi and handed him over to the police. Harunur Rashid, sub-inspector of Lalmai police station, who came to the scene, said that the killer Sabuj has been arrested. The body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Vandalism and looting of house under construction due to dispute over land.

Riyad Bhuiyan, Laksam (Comilla) representative :

In Comilla’s Manoharganj, due to a dispute over land, there have been reports of vandalism of houses under construction and looting of goods. The house contents were not only vandalized and looted, but the assailants of the local rivals tried to occupy the place at night by publicly threatening to kill the victim’s family. Bilkis Akhter, the wife of the victim Nazrul Islam, filed a written complaint against four people at the Manoharganj police station on Friday morning. The accused are Alamgir Hossain (50), son of deceased Cheru of Batabaria village of Manoharganj upazila, Abul Mia (35) son of Abdul Jalil of the same village and Farid Mia (35) Kamal Hossain (50) of Urukchail village of Nangalkot upazila. The attack happened publicly on Thursday night (December 8) at Nazrul Islam’s new house on the east side of the Comilla-Noakhali regional highway in Khila Bazar of the upazila. According to the complaint, Nazrul Islam, son of Soleman Mia of Khila Haji Bari, Upazila Khila Union, and Alamgir Hossain, son of deceased Cheru Mia of Batabaria village of the same union, have been in dispute over land and property for a long time. On December 8 (Thursday) around 8 pm, 20/25 assailants led by Alamgir Hossain attacked Nazrul Islam’s new house with iron rods and sticks and vandalized the new house under construction. At that time, the attackers looted 3 tons of iron rods, 60 bags of cement and many daily essential goods from that house. After receiving the news, the members of Thana police and the chairman of Khila Union Parishad and local market traders came to the spot. Monir Hossain, General Secretary of Khila Bazaar Management Committee, said that Alamgir occupied the place by keeping sand to sell it a few days ago. That night, a person named Mizan removed the sands. Alamgir complained to the leaders of the market committee that there was an argument between them about sand. I assure them that I will solve the matter. Before our solution, Nazrul Islam occupied the place and built a house on the instructions of the Chairman of UP. Allegations of vandalism and looting of goods are completely false and fabricated. Al Amin Bhuiyan, Chairman of the Union Parishad, said that the local Nazrul Islam built a new building in his property in Khila Bazar and Comilla-Noakhali Regional Highway and even kept building materials in a tin house in front of the building. They have a conflict with Alamgir Hossain for a long time. On Thursday night, Alamgir Hossain along with some outsiders tried to vandalize their house and occupy the place. Shafiul Alam, officer-in-charge of Manoharganj police station, said that the police went to the spot to investigate the complaint and the local people said that they will resolve the matter within 2/1 day.
