Human chain against conspiracy to close Kurigram Diabetic Hospital.

 Aggrieved patients, hospital officials, employees and people from different levels of the district formed a human chain against the plan to close the Kurigram Diabetic Hospital. The human bond was held in front of the Diabetic Hospital located in the old hospital neighborhood of the district town on Wednesday.  President of Kurigram Diabetic Association retired Major Abdus Chalam, General Secretary and Mayor Kajiul Islam, brave freedom fighter and former district commander Sirajul Islam Tuku, journalist Shafi Khan and others spoke on the occasion.  Patients and their relatives who received medical treatment along with other officials and employees of the hospital were present in the human chain.

The speakers said that the Kurigram Diabetic Association established the hospital in 2006 to ensure medical care for diabetic patients in the poor district.  Since then the hospital has been operating systematically and is currently providing medical care to around 18,000 registered diabetic patients.  But Panir Uddin Ahmed, a local member of parliament to manage the hospital failed in his attempt to form a new committee outside the constitution and filed a writ in the High Court.  It asked why the current committee should not be declared invalid and why the committee formed by it should not be given a chance.  Speakers said it was a conspiracy to close the hospital.  Speakers strongly protested this incident.

 President of Kurigram Diabetic Hospital retired Major Abdus Chalam said that the committee has been formed according to the constitution and the hospital is being managed through that committee.  We have received the copy of the writ written by the local member of parliament and as per the constitution a reply will be given to show cause in the High Court as well.  He also said that the local member of parliament has continued the plot to close the hospital because of losing the election of the committee against which he has written.  Even as a public representative, if he stands against the people, then the people will not be served.  He demanded to stop these plots for the sake of the people of this district.
