A. zalil, Staff Reporter:-

Benapole, the country’s largest land port of Jessore, has been connected with the latest technology in the world. Electronic gates or e-gates have been installed for e-passport holders. On Saturday 4/3/23, these gates were officially inaugurated by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan. Kamal Earlier, where one had to suffer for hours to complete the immigration, now citizens with e-passport can travel between the two countries after completing the immigration process in just 18 seconds. As a result, they are happy to complete immigration easily using e-passport as they do not have to suffer in long queues. It is known that at these electronic gates, first the page containing the photo, information and barcode of the e-passport holder will be scanned and the information will be verified through artificial intelligence. If all goes well, the first step of the gate will open. After that, the second gate will be opened only if the face of the passenger is matched with the passport photo through the second step direct detection camera. And if the server and system are all right then the immigration of a passenger will be completed in maximum 18 seconds. According to the Benapole immigration sources, during normal times five to seven thousand people are traveling between Bangladesh and India through the Benapole land port through passport. This number doubles during Eid and Puja. Passengers have to stand in long queues to check documents at immigration. This increases passenger suffering. The broker gang extorts money from the passengers by promising to facilitate the immigration process first without standing in the queue. Passengers are subjected to fraud and harassment. Four e-gates have been installed at Benapole land port to facilitate and secure passenger services. Two of these will be used for returning from India and two for entering India from Bangladesh. In this regard, Moniruzzaman, who passed through E Gate, said, “Since 2001, I have been traveling between India and Bangladesh through Benapole port. This is the first time it took less than a minute to complete the passport data verification process through eGate. But it took 5 to 7 minutes to stamp the visa as before. If there is a crowd, it takes half an hour to an hour to stand in line. After the opening of E-Gate in the afternoon, the gate was opened for E-passport holders. Then one by one numerous passengers crossed the gate by showing e-passport at the gate. Later they went to the counter for visa verification. From there, the passport is sealed in the book. In the opening speech of e-gate, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said about the complexity of visa verification, not only e-passport is e-gate; We are also leaving on e-visa. From handwritten Bangladesh passport to MRP and then to e-passport, we are now moving towards smart Bangladesh. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan also said, Prime Minister’s election announcement was to build a digital Bangladesh. As part of building that digital Bangladesh, e-passport is in everyone’s hand today. At this point we left the handwritten passports and traveled to MRPO. Now I have gone to e-passport with the hand of Sheikh Hasina. Which has cooperated with the world’s renowned company Zamarni.
