Wednesday (January 25) marks the 1990th birth anniversary of epic poet Michael Madhusudan Dutta, the pioneer of Amitrakshar rhythm in Bengali literature. Mahakabi Michael Madhusudan Dutta was a prominent Bengali poet and dramatist of the 19th century and one of the pioneers of Bengal’s renaissance literature. He was born on January 25, 1824 in the Zamindar Datta family of Sagardandi village on the banks of Kapotaksha river in Keshabpur upazila of Jessore. His father is Zamindar Rajnarayan Dutt and mother Janhvi Devi. Madhusudan Dutta converted to Christianity in 1853. Since then ‘Michael’ has been added to his name. Mahakabi Michael Madhusudan Dutta died on 29th June 1873 at Alipore General Hospital. On the occasion of Mahakab’s birth anniversary, a week-long honey fair is being held at Sagardani. To entertain the visitors at this year’s Madhu Mela, there will be a circus, magic show and a death well in the pandal, as well as performances by artists from Keshavpur and Jessore in the Madhu Manch, as well as performances by national poets, writers and artists. There are various events for children including Nagardola.

Mysterious fire at garment in Manirampur.

According to local sources, a fire broke out in a garment store called Safia Clothing Store on the east side of Hamida Shopping Complex in Durgapur Ward, Jessore, Manirampur, on Friday 20th January 2023 at approximately 10:40 PM. First seeing the fire in Hamida shopping complex, Md Hazrat Ali, the owner of the neighboring Imran Hotel and Restaurant, informed Safia Begum, the owner of the garments, and a policeman on foot saw the fire and informed the officer in charge of Manirampur police station, Md Maniruzzaman. Immediately, the fire service called the rural electricity office and turned off the electricity. The fire service team reached the spot and managed to put out the fire. Also, the owners of various garments rushed to Hamida complex from far away. He came late. According to sources, the Safia clothing store was almost closed. He kept some of his store’s goods and sold the rest to the owner of Chanchal Garments for Tk 1 lakh 47 thousand and to Md. Hamid, the owner of Smart Fashion and Express, last Thursday. On the afternoon of 19/01/23, he sold goods worth 17 thousand taka, he sold goods worth 40 thousand taka to Atiqur Rahman, the owner of the shop in front. Pranab Kumar Biswas, fire service officer of Manirampur police station said, “We were able to bring the fire under control at 11 pm. It is not yet known how the fire started. Subject to investigation, it will be possible to say how the fire started and how much damage was done. However, initially we saw that there were not many goods in the shop. There were some Genji. The shop owners of the pass said that Safia Begum opened the shop 20 to 23 minutes before the fire broke out in the shop. At that time, the garment owners were busy closing the market shop. Garment owners have demanded a thorough investigation of the incident, about 30 garment shops in this market and Bangladesh Krishi Bank on the second floor. If the fire had spread to the entire market, a bank with around 30 shops would have been destroyed. Garment owners demanded a proper investigation into the incident.
