Khulna The project feasibility study for the construction of Sheikh Hasina Medical University in Khulna has been completed. If the survey report is approved, the work of preparing the DPP (Development Project Proposal) for the construction of the university campus and ancillary facilities will begin soon. Later, the university campus with 960 bed hospital and other infrastructure will be built step by step. The project costing Rs 4,634 crore will start in July 2023 and will last till June 2027. This information was given at a meeting to present the final report of the feasibility study at a hotel in the city on Monday. It was informed in the meeting that the Sheikh Hasina Medical University Bill was passed in the National Parliament in 2021 as the fifth medical university in the country. University infrastructure will be constructed in three phases on 50 acres of land near Saltachara police station in Khulna. Administrative approval for land acquisition is under process. Once the university is fully operational, there will be opportunities for post-graduate education and higher research in the field of medicine. At the same time, access to quality medical services will be easier for nearly two crore people of Khulna region. Vice Chancellor of Medical University Professor Dr. Mahbubur Rahman said that 9 medical colleges and 5 nursing colleges have been affiliated to Sheikh Hasina Medical University. Supervision is being done to ensure that the educational programs of these institutions are standardized. Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukdar Abdul Khalek was the chief guest on the occasion. Member of Parliament of Khulna-2 Constituency Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel was the guest of honor. Director General of National Planning and Development Academy Badrul Arefin and Khulna District Council Chairman Sheikh Harunur Rashid were special guests. The survey report was presented by Manjur KH Uddin, Managing Director of the consulting firm Professional Associates Limited.
