Khulna Great Martyr’s Day and International Mother Language Day 2023 have been celebrated with due dignity under the initiative of Khulna City Corporation. On the occasion of the celebration of the day, national flags will be flown at half-mast at Nagar Bhavan, Mayor’s Bus Bhavan, Khalishpur Branch Office, Nagar Health Bhavan, Matrisadan, Municipal Garage, Asphalt Plant, Ward Office, Community Center and all educational institutions run by KCC and Shahid Hadis Park. In the first hour of the day, City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek paid tribute to language martyrs by offering floral hymns at Shahid Minar in Shahid Hadis Park of the city and in the morning paid tributes by offering floral tributes to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Nagar Bhaban. KCC mayoral panel members, councillors, reserved constituencies councilors and officials were present on the occasion. On the occasion of Martyr’s Day and International Mother Language Day, children’s drawing and writing competition, discussion meeting and prize distribution program were organized in the morning at Nagar Bhaban. KCC Chief Executive Officer (Joint Secretary) Lashkar Tajul Islam inaugurated the painting and writing competition. Later, City Mayor Talukdar Abdul Khalek spoke as the chief guest in the discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony. Paying tribute to the memory of language martyrs in the discussion meeting, the city mayor said, “With blood, we have gained the right and freedom of language.” Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mubizur Rahman imprisoned for language. Khulna Police arrested 4 people involved in the robbery of 5 shops late at night in Dakop, Khulna along with the stolen goods. The arrested thieves were sent to jail at 11:30 on Tuesday, February 21. According to Ezahar’s sources, this violent theft was organized in the late night of Wednesday, February 15, at Dakbangla Mosque Market in Upazila Sadar Achabhuasth, at Bismillah Telecom, Mobile Bazar, Chalan Dawakhana and Prabha Telecom in the market under Agrani Bank in Dakbangla. Unidentified thieves broke the ventilator on the west side wall of the mosque market and entered the shops, the thieves left with various goods including gold necklaces, cash, mobile phones, mobile recharge cards. Shop owners affected by this heinous theft informed the police station on Thursday morning, February 16 and filed a statement. Police officer in-charge Ujjal Kumar Dutta immediately filed a case at the police station taking into account the statement of the victims. At one stage of the operation, on February 18, the Chowish team of the police managed to arrest 4 members of the international thief gang. The arrested thieves are Md. Raju Molya (25), son of Md. Babul Molya (North) of Haji village, Dighlia police station, Khulna, another son, Md. Nazmul Molya (32), and Md. Laden (19), son of Nazmul Sheikh, Khairtola (tenant of Orange house) of Jessore Kotyali police station, and the same. Police arrested Mosa Rahima Khatun, daughter of Anwar Hossain and wife of Hasib Molya. According to the extensive interrogation and confession of the arrested persons, the Thana Police stole a gold chain weighing 6 annas and 6 points, 1 pair of gold leaf earrings weighing 2 annas and 5 points, 1 gold ring weighing 1 annas and 2 points and 9 points, 1 gold ring weighing 1 annas and 2 points and 9 points. 1 pair of silver bangles weighing 2 annas, 15 Tk 19 Muleman recharge cards of Banglalink company, stolen Tk 1500, 5 mobile phones of different models, 1 navy-bride colored hoody sweater worn by the thieves, screwdriver, empty straps of mobile phones of different bands were recovered. A case was filed against the thieves arrested in this incident on Saturday, February 18, in Dakop Police Station, whose case is No-9. On Tuesday, February 21, those arrested were sent to the District Magistrate at noon. Police officer in-charge Ujjal Kumar Dutta said that there are several cases of theft organized against the arrested in different upazilas of the two districts. In response to a question, he said there are more members of this band of thieves. Field level police operations are ongoing to arrest them.
