The severity of winter has increased in Kurigram.  The temperature has started to drop.  The towns of the district are covered in fog.  The working people are in trouble.  At the same time, the effect of cold-related diseases is increasing.  Children and old people are suffering because of this.

 According to Kurigram Rajarhat Meteorological and Agricultural Observatory, the temperature of the district was recorded at 12.7 degrees Celsius at 6 am on Tuesday (December 13).  By the end of the week, the temperature may drop further. Different areas of Kurigram are seen indoors, thick fog is falling from midnight, the cold level is increasing.  All around is covered in fog.  As a result, vehicles are running with their headlights on even during the day.  As the winter progresses, the hard working people are in trouble.  Besides, children and elderly have to suffer.  The people of the riverside grazing areas have suffered more.  Due to the lack of warm clothes, the distress of poor and helpless people is increasing day by day. Some residents including Nazrul Islam of Shatipuri of Baldia Union of Bhurungamari Upazila of Kurigram said, “We work at Sonahat land port.  Must reach port by 7:30 am.  Dense fog and cold make it difficult to attend work.

 Jasimuddin, a day laborer, said that they are late to join the farm work due to thick fog.  Apart from this, it is becoming difficult to work in the winter. Saidul Islam, an autorickshaw driver, said that it is difficult to drive an auto on the road due to the fog.  Head light has to be turned on in the morning.  Moreover, passengers have also decreased.  If the fog increases, the income will decrease.  I will be in a lot of trouble. Kurigram District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer.  Abdul Hai Sarkar said, 1 lakh 38 thousand winter clothes have been allocated in 9 upazilas of the district.  The distribution of which continues.  Also, various non-governmental organizations are standing beside the poor and helpless people.

 Kurigram Rajarhat Meteorological and Agricultural Observatory Officer-in-Charge Tuhin Mia said, Kurigram has recorded a temperature of 12.7 degrees Celsius today.  Day by day the temperature of this district will continue to decrease.  This will increase the intensity of winter.

Ulipur’s Thetrai UP chairman beat up the assistant land officer.

A case has been filed against 3 people including a UP chairman for beating up the assistant land officer in Ulipur of Kurigram.  The injured land official filed the case as plaintiff on Monday night.  Earlier on Monday afternoon, the incident took place at Thetrai Union Land Office.

 It is known according to local people and Ezahar that on Monday at 3:30 pm, Chairman of Thetrai Union of Upazila Md. Ataur Rahman and his brother-in-law Md.  Shah Alam went to Thetrai Land Office.  At that time, Shah Alam, the brother-in-law of the chairman, claimed the 8th century land was rejected and the rent was unfair.  At one stage of the discussion, the chairman and his brother-in-law Assistant Land Officer (Var.) Md.  Jasim abused and severely beat Uddin and robbed him of 33 thousand 310 taka and threatened him with death.  Later the people present rescued him.  On receiving the information, the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) went to the spot and rescued the injured officer and admitted him to Ulipur Health Complex for treatment.

 When Chairman Ataur Rahman was contacted in this regard, he said, “My brother-in-law Shah Alam’s 8th century land has been rejected and harassed for 6 months.  Talking about the matter involved arguments and fights with my brother-in-law and the Assistant Land Officer.  But I didn’t kill him, just abused him.  But he made me the number one accused.

 Upazila Assistant Commissioner Kazi Mahmudur Rahman said, after receiving the news, he quickly went to the spot and heard the incident from the people present.  Later, the injured assistant land officer was rescued and admitted to the hospital.

 Ulipur police station OC Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman confirmed the case and said that a case has been registered in the police station.
