Pro-BNP teachers at Dhaka University have rejected the current Dhaka University Teachers’ Association committee, labelling it as “unelected”.

The announcement was made in a press release sent to the media by the pro-BNP teachers’ organization at the university on Thursday afternoon.

The press release was signed by Shada Dal Convenor Lutfar Rahman, Joint Convenor Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, and Abdus Salam.

The statement criticized the current association for being unsupportive of teachers and students, endorsing the autocratic government and its allies, and opposing recent student and public uprisings.

The rejection followed the December election of the executive council for 2024, which saw the pro-Awami Neel Dal win 15 posts uncontested after the pro-BNP White Dal boycotted the election. Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan was elected president, and Zinat Huda was elected general secretary.

Lutfar Rahman said: “The current committee of the association was elected without voting, meaning it is unelected. Their activities have proven detrimental to both teachers and students. Consequently, we have decided to sever our association with them and announce our rejection.”
