A person was killed in Sandwip due to a dispute over bail money. The name of the murdered person is Md. Jahangir Alam Ayub (62). He is the son of the deceased Md. Abdullah of Daulat’s house in Ward No. 9 of Gachua Union of the upazila. Md. Sahabuddin Sumon, the accused in the murder case, is absconding.
The relatives of the deceased said that Jahangir Alam had been working at his house since morning. In the afternoon, some people including Sahabuddin Sumon came to Jahangir Alam’s house. At one stage of their conversation, Sahabuddin Sumon hit Jahangir Alam on the back of the head with an iron rod, causing Jahangir Alam to fall down screaming. Hearing her husband’s screams, Sahabuddin along with his assistant took Jahangir Alam from the house on a motorcycle before Jahangir Alam’s wife reached the spot. Later, seeing that the condition was critical, Sumon took Jahangir to Sandwip Gachhua Government Hospital and fled.
According to local sources, Jahangir and his neighbor Taher had a dispute over land. Taher filed a case of violence against women against Jahangir over this incident. When Jahangir was arrested and sent to jail in the case, Sahabuddin Suman got him bail. Sahabuddin Suman demanded two lakh taka from Jahangir Alam for bail expenses. Jahangir paid half of the money. A dispute arose between Suman and Jahangir over the remaining money. Suman hit Jahangir over that money, causing him to die. Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sandwip Police Station Monirul Islam said that the miscreants hit Jahangir on the head with a stick after demanding the money he owed.
He was taken to the Upazila Health Complex in a seriously injured condition, but he died while undergoing treatment there.
Police are conducting a massive operation to arrest the miscreants involved in the incident. The body of the deceased is currently at the Upazila Health Complex. No case has been filed in the incident so far.
