Miscreants brutally murder police SI in Durgapur, Netrakona

A police sub-inspector named Shafiqul Islam was murdered in Durgapur, Netrokona.

He was seriously injured in a random stone-pelting incident in the alley of Pan Mahal in Ukilpara area of Durgapur municipality on Thursday evening and died while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital during the night.

SI Shafiqul is the son of Rafiqul Islam of Noagaon village in Chandigarh union of the upazila. He is working in Jamalpur police lines and had come to his village home in Durgapur on leave.

According to family sources, on Thursday evening, when he left his house for shopping, several miscreants targeted him and started pelting him with stones with country-made weapons. Later, when the locals came forward after hearing his cries, the miscreants fled. At that time, the locals rescued him and took him to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty there sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital after providing primary treatment.

He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital that night.

On-duty doctor Dr. Farhana Akhter Sumi said, “The right leg was severed below the wrist due to the sharp weapon and there was a lot of bleeding. In addition, the cowherd was seriously injured in various parts of the body. We gave him primary treatment and sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.”

When asked about this, Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Bachchu Mia did not answer the phone when several attempts were made to contact him on his mobile phone.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) of the District Special Branch Md. Lutfar Rahman confirmed the incident. He also said that it is believed that the attack was carried out due to personal enmity. He assured that the matter will be investigated including collecting CCTV footage of the scene and those involved in the murder will be arrested very soon.
