International Customs Day was celebrated with due dignity at Benapole, Jessore. On this occasion, a seminar was organized at Benapole Customs Club. The seminar started on Thursday 26th January at 11 am under the chairmanship of Moazzem Hossain, Commissioner of Customs Excise VAT Commissionerate Jessore. President of Customs Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal Dhaka SM Humayun Kabir was present as the chief guest. Benapole Customs Commissioner (current duty) Md. Abdul Hakim was present as a special guest. Md. Shafayet Hossain, Joint Commissioner of Benapole Custom House gave a welcome speech. Key Note Paper was presented by Abdul Rashid Mia, Joint Commissioner of Benapole Custom House. Documentary images on Bangladesh Customs were displayed during the seminar program. OC Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan of Benapole Port Police Station, leaders of Benapole C&F Agent Association, journalists, customs officials were also present at this time.

6 crore gold bars arrested from Sharsha Kaiba border-2.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have arrested two smugglers and seized a private vehicle along with 70 pitches (8 kg 163 grams) of gold bars from Sharsha Kayba border in Jessore. They were arrested along with the gold shipment on Wednesday (January 25) evening. The arrested are Shariful Moral, son of Deven Moral of Putkhali village of Benapole Port police station Abdul Hannan is the son of Ratan Pradhan of Chandpur Botdel village. BGB said that one smuggler ran away. Khulna Sector Commander Mamunur Rashid said that the BGB members under the leadership of Lt. Col. Tanvir Rahman, the captain of 21 BGB, seized a private car and detained them from the Panch Kayba area of Sharsha on secret information that gold would be smuggled to India. Later, the gold shipment was recovered from the meter box in front of the steering wheel of the private car, hidden in a special tapestry. The BGB official said that the value of the seized gold is Tk 6 crore 52 lakh.
