According to the District Agriculture Extension Department, the crop can be harvested in less time in mustard cultivation.  It costs less.  As compared to other crops, the need for fertilizers and pesticides is less, farmers are leaning towards mustard cultivation. Farmers of North Kadamtala village of Panchgachi Union said.  Mokhleshur Rahman said, ‘I have planted mustard on 3 bigha land.  Crops are looking better this year than last year.  I will benefit if there is no disease in the mustard field.

Farmer of Char Velakopa village.  Sekender Ali said, “I cultivated 4 bigha of land.  It has less cost and more profit.  It costs 4-5 thousand rupees per bigha.  6-7 maunds of mustard are available per bigha.  The current market price is Tk 2,800-3,000 per maund.  Ekramul Haque said, “After harvesting the paddy, the land remains empty for some time.  I cultivate mustard in 3-4 bigha land thinking of additional income in less time.  As the demand in the market is good, we are thinking of increasing cultivation in the future. Biplab Kumar Mohant, Director of Kurigram Agriculture Extension Department said, “Mustard was cultivated on 13 thousand hectares of land in 9 upazilas of Kurigram last year.  16 thousand hectares of land has been cultivated this year due to good yield and price.  Work is being done to achieve the target of cultivating 40 thousand hectares of land in the district within the next 3 years.
