Violence of robbers and looters has increased at Jhikargacha railway station: passengers are worried.

A. zalil, Staff Reporter:-

Robbery, eve-teasing, passenger harassment has become a daily occurrence at Jessore’s Jhikargacha railway station. Due to negligence, lack of supervision and absenteeism of the officials working at the station, the station is now in the hands of evtizers and up-and-coming robbers. Robberies are frequent here, not only during the night but also during the day. Especially young women and teenagers visiting the flower capital Gadkhali from outside and couples in love have become the main target of robbers. Last Friday (March 3), three teenagers and a girl traveling from Jessore to Gadkhali were robbed at Jhikargacha railway station. Jeesan (15), a victim of Jessore’s Rajarhat, said that he came to Jhikargacha railway station with his two friends and a girlfriend to return to Jessore after seeing Gadakhali flowers. Meanwhile, 5/6 boys of rising age called them and took them aside and tried to beat them saying why they came for a walk with a girl. Meanwhile, 10/15 more people joined those boys. First on top of the railway bridge and later in the evening in a nearby house and demanded money. Unable to pay, they took a Samsung and a Redmi phone with them and threatened to kill anyone if they say anything. They got into the bus and went back home without saying anything out of fear. Tourists who come to Gadakhali are often victims of such robbery and eve teasing but no one complains anywhere for fear of public shame. As a result, criminals remain undetected. When Jhikargacha went to the railway station to talk about this, no officer in charge was found at the station. When contacted on the phone, the station master Nigar Sultana said that he is not on duty today. He will come on the 7th. And Parveen Sultana said, I am out of the station for personal work. He said he did not know anything about robbery or eve teasing. Jhikargacha police station officer in-charge Suman Bhakta said, we have police patrols to prevent such incidents. No one complained. Action will be taken if complaints are received. It is to be noted that even before this, the absence of the master working at Jhikargacha railway station, neglect of duty, financial corruption and other irregularities have been continuously reported in various electronic and print media, but the authorities have not taken any punitive action against them. Local people including the victims have demanded immediate installation of closed circuit cameras to rid the station of vandals and looters as well as transfer of the station master.
